CAPE TO CAIRO

Cape Town to Cairo!
What a romantic notion!

Cecil John Rhodes dreamt of a railway track linking Cape Town to Cairo. His dream was never realised, but now these two fundamentally different African Cities willbe joined together in 2010 by Rovos Rail's Trans-African Cape to Cairo Safaris. Rovos Rail has designed two separate itineraries for this exclusive five star Cape to Cairo journey which includes the incomparable luxury of the train as well as a comfortable classic aircraft.
The 28 day sojourn commences with a train journey from Cape Town to the majestic Victoria Falls. Between the two destinations is an adventure which includes four nights accommodation on the train with interesting off-train excursions. Thereafter join our air safari and continue north from the Victoria Falls to Zanzibar and then Tanzania where a four day visit to the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti await you. Continue onto Entebbe, Uganda and enjoy an optional visit to the gorillas.
Your journey then follows the Nile northwards to Khartoum in the Sudan and onto Abu Simbel in Egypt. A luxurious Lake cruiser will take you in a leisurely fashion over 4 nights to Aswan. Then it's onto Luxor for 3 nights to experience ancient Egypt in all its splendour as you visit temples, quarries and the Valley of Kings and Queens. Rejoin the aircraft for the last leg to Cairo where your 28 day adventure ends as you tour the Pyramids, Sphinx and the Egyptian Museum of Antiquities from the exquisite Fours Seasons First Residence Hotel.

The second 34 day itinerary travels through the heartlands of South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Tanzania by train with several interesting and varied off-train excursions. Enjoy a two night visit to the Madikwe Game Reserve, an overnight stop at the Victoria Falls Hotel before trundling through Zambia and Tanzania where your train part of your journey ends in Dar es Salaam. Thereafter join our classic aircraft and continue from Dar es Salaam to Zanzibar and then Tanzania where a four day visit to the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti await you. Continue onto Entebbe, Uganda and enjoy an optional visit to the gorillas. Your journey then follows the Nile northwards to Khartoum in the Sudan and onto Abu Simbel in Egypt.
